Surgical Teaching for Enrichment in Education and Leadership (STEEL)
In an effort to formalize surgical educator training for post-graduate trainees in surgical disciplines at the 天涯社区, we propose a structured program that includes didactic sessions, reflective essays, mentored teaching across the spectrum of surgical educational opportunities, and the development of a teaching dossier. This proposal has been developed in collaboration with Surgical Education Rounds, Dr. Simon Turner (Tom Williams Endowed Chair in Surgical Education) and Dr. Erin Wright (Director of Post-Graduate Surgical Education).
This voluntary program for residents in surgical disciplines will build upon the currently established Teacher Training Retreat in Post-Graduate Year 1 to allow for the development of more advanced educational approaches during senior years of residency. Completion of the STEEL program requirements will be formally recognized by the Department of Surgery and can be acknowledged by participants on a Curriculum Vitae at completion.
